Trapeze Networks debuts NonStop Wireless

Trapeze Networks has announced a major update to its key product lines, to enable what the company is calling NonStop Wireless.

The technology update is described by Trapeze as the most significant breakthrough in wireless LAN technology in recent years for large sized installations. NonStop Wireless is intended to introduce fully automated redundancy and scaling to wireless LAN, to enable smooth operation with in service upgrades and easier configuration and management of wireless networks.

As of today, an enterprise can confidently enjoy the freedom of wireless voice and data connectivity because Trapeze has made the wireless network more reliable than it's ever been before."

The product updates include version 7.0 of the Trapeze Mobility System Software, a distributed wireless operating system that delivers a range of solutions for more efficient and reliable wireless LAN, including the new Virtual Controller Cluster technology, which allows Controller Virtualization that improves the overall reliability of the wireless LAN in much the same way Server Virtualization provides reliability for server based enterprise applications. The system provides automatic re-routing in case of failover, application-specific switching, and seamless switching between indoors and outdoors.

Trapeze has also introduced its RingMaster WLAN 2.0 network planning tool, which has been designed to configure complex wireless deployments, and is also available pre-installed into the new RM-200 wireless management appliance, which is pre-configured to provide monitoring and configuration data, saving time for expanding and managing the network.

NonStop Wireless also includes updates to key Trapeze hardware lines, including the MX-2800 wireless controller which has a 12,000 active client capacity, which Trapeze says is capable of speeds four times faster than its nearest competitor, and also includes clustering capabilities, so that 32,700 access points can be managed through a single virtual cluster. MP-432 802.11n capable access point, which enables wireless traffic to be forwarded at the access point without having to pass through a WLAN controller.
