Dubai-based Almulla Hospitality and Jasper Capital have reached an agreement to develop a chain of Shariah-compliant hotels that will number about 150 worldwide with an estimated 90 to be built across North Africa and the Middle East.

Almulla Hospitality hopes to tap into the burgeoning Muslim travel market with a hotel chain that observes universal Muslim codes such as providing only Halal food and serving no alcohol.

"At the launch of Almulla Hospitality we announced that our goal is to achieve, within five to seven years, 150 properties worldwide under management," said Abdulla Mohamed Almulla, chairman of Almulla Hospitality.

"We are very pleased to assign Jasper Capital Group of the UK to structure a plan toward achieving our goal."

Almulla said that there are Shariah-compliant hotels throughout the world, but the new company will be an international brand and be located in non-Muslim countries, especially in Europe where the demand is growing, as well as Muslim countries.

"Countries such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, where hotels are run on Islamic principles already, are showing increased demand," Almulla said.

"Then there is the inbound traffic from the Arabian Gulf and other Islamic countries to cities such as Dubai, which is a major centre of tourism growth."
