DM hands out sewerage contracts

Dubai Municipality awarded sewerage and draining contracts last week worth a combined total of US $121.2 million (AED445 million).

The municipality refused to disclose the names of the contractors, with the only details being that the project had been awarded to a private firm of high reputation in the field of infrastructure development and that it will be carried out under the supervision of a prominent consultant.

However, Construction Week determined that UAE-based contractor Wade Adams picked up a $70.8 million contract for the construction of Al Barsha sewerage and draining job DS145 in Area 3.

The project is expected to be completed in 24 months and the consultant is Dubai-based Al Thurath Company. The scope of work involves the complete sewerage and drainage works for Area 3 along with storm water draining, including manholes.

The second job, for provision of a drainage and storm-water network in Al Warqa, is worth $50.4 million and goes to an unnamed contractor.

Acting director general of DM Hussain Nasser Lootah said: "This project will provide drainage connections to some 2185 houses in Al Warqa 3 area, which is located between Al Awir Road in the south, Al Warqa 1 and 2 in the west, Mirdif in the north and Al Warqa 4 in the east. The total area to be served by the project is 636 hectares. Besides, the storm-water network would have a total capacity of 188,000m³ per day."
