Ashraf Helmy, marketing manager, StorageWorks, HP Middle East

HP has announced the first in what its says will be a range of storage devices aimed at data-intensive environments such as Web 2.0 media companies and data centres.

The HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System (ExDS9100) is a NAS device that can scale up to 820TB, with a single management interface. The NAS comes in a 4-16 blade configuration, with up to 12.8 cores per unit for a 3.2 gigabyte (GB)/second performance level, support for 3-10 high availability storage blocks. A single graphical user interface and wizards for common tasks make management easier, and the device includes HP's file cluster software as well.

The NAS has been designed to be easily scalable to meet demand, whether through overall demand or peaks in demand, and makes performance independent of capacity, allowing companies to match capabilities to unique workloads to keep critical business applications available.

Ashraf Helmy, marketing manager, StorageWorks, HP Middle East: "As business requirements rapidly change and digital media files grow at exponential rates, many enterprises need to manage growth in a way that helps them profit from their storage infrastructure. That's where the ExDS9100 really delivers. The ExDS9100 is the only complete hardware and software system that provides a flexible and affordable solution for customers with massive capacity needs."

The ExDS9100 is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
