Ajman’s retail scene booms

by Lynne Nolan on Thursday, 08 May 2008

Ajman City Centre witnessed a 28% rise in sales last year. The mall welcomed more than nine million visitors in 2007, an 11% increase over 2006, while sales reached AED 632 million, marking a 28% growth compared to the previous year.

"We really look forward to the annual meeting as it gives the mall management a chance to meet all our retailers under one roof. And what makes it even better are times when we have excellent success figures to announce," said Jassem Al Khaja, general manager, Ajman City Centre.

The results and highlights of last year's business were announced at its recent Annual General Meeting, in addition to the targeted growth rates and new key initiatives for 2008.

The meeting ended on a high note with the mall management awarding its retailers in 12 diverse categories based on various criteria such as trading in the business for 12 months or more, sales performance, operational compliance, and participation in the marketing activities.

Landmark Group walked away with two accolades for Best Retailer and Best Anchor Store of the Year, while Promod won in the Best Fashion Store category and Mothercare scooped the Best Children's Fashion Store gong.

Other winners included Starbucks as the Best Restaurant & Café, Magic Planet for Best Entertainment & Hobby Store, Axiom for Best Electronics & Telephone Accessories, and Areej for Best Health, Wellness & Perfume Store.

Conveniently located off Emirates Road, Ajman City Centre is the largest shopping mall in Ajman. The centre is at the heart of the community and offers customers a combined shopping and entertainment experience close to home.

The centre originally opened in December 1998 with 46 stores. It has since added 22 stores, and increased its total retail area to over 37,000m².
