Samsung president Geesung Choi shows off the Soul U900 at Mobile World Congress

Samsung has launched its new flagship handset for 2008, the U900, otherwise known as Soul.

First seen at the Mobile World Congress 2008, the Soul U900 has been designed to include a range of professional photography features, including built-in 5 megapixel camera, face detection, image stabilizer, microSD support and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), to help Samsung to carve out share of the high end handset business.

The U900 is a tri-band slider-design handset, 12.9mm thick, with 2.2 inch QVGA screen. The phone also features a ‘Magic Touch' interface, which displays different illuminated navigation keys depending on what function is in use at the time - if the user is playing music, then music related icons light up.

Sandeep Saighal, general manager of handheld phones at Samsung Gulf Electronics commented: "We believe that Soul is what today's consumers are looking for in a mobile phone. The fundamental direction of the design concept of Soul was to combine the essence of advanced technology with a stylishly designed mobile handset.

"We truly believe that Samsung U900 will attract style conscious consumers who are not willing to compromise style for technology. These consumers are constantly driven by quality of design and performance," he added.

The Soul U900 is available now, recommended retail price is AED 2,000 ($544).
