Microsoft has announced an appeal against the 899m euro($1.39m) fine levied on it by the European Commission for anti-competitive practices.
The latest fine was imposed after Microsoft failed to provide interoperability information to competitors, part of a remedy from the original 2004 ruling against Microsoft for withholding information on its server products and for tying Windows Media Player to the Windows OS.
In a statement released on Friday Microsoft said that it was "filing this appeal in a constructive effort to seek clarity from the court", although no further information was given on the action.
Microsoft has been fined a total of 1.68 billion euros from the initial case and penalties for failing to meet conditions set by the Commission.
