New tyre plant to ease shortage

While car tyres litter every highway, rubber for earthmovers are a little harder to come by. A new factory is being built to solve this.

Michelin is attempting to address the worldwide machine and truck tyre shortage by opening a new facility in Brazil.

The French manufacturer will produce large quantities of the XGC earthmover tyres. Luc Minguet, President, Michelin Earthmover Tire explained

"The Campo Grande production facility will complement the expansions taking place at our Lexington, South Carolina facility as Michelin demonstrates its commitment to heavy industries".

The current waiting list for heavy machine tyres in the region is around eight months.

Elsewhere, there are signs that the tyre shortage is getting better. Sudhir Tripathi, Marketing Manager Al-Bahar said;

"The situation is much better this year than in 2007 and we expect it to improve again."
