HP considering EDS buy

by Mark Sutton on Tuesday, 13 May 2008

HP has revealed that it is considering a possible purchase of services giant EDS.

The company has confirmed reports in the Wall Street Journal that it is holding discussions with EDS over a possible buy. The Wall Street Journal had said that HP was offering between twelve and thirteen billion dollars for the Texas-based services company.

A statement from HP issued yesterday said: "HP today confirmed that it is engaged in advanced discussions with Electronic Data Systems Corporation regarding a possible business combination involving the two companies."

HP is already a major customer of EDS, and a buy would be a big boost to HP's services division.
