Dubai Sports City unveils twin tower structure

by Michele Howe on Wednesday, 14 May 2008

Dubai Sports City, the company behind the development of the same name, today unveiled the model for The Gateway, a twin tower block to be located at the entrance to the development.

Designed by architectural practice Arif & Bintoak, the towers will have a total built up area of 1,214,225 square feet and 44 floors of offices per tower.

The Gateway is the first commercial property unveiled by Dubai Sports City, and will be the tallest in the district, according to the company.

"The Gateway will be a unique commercial offering in Dubai Sports City. We have designed the towers to be a bold architectural statement as the largest structure in the district," Khalid Al Zarooni, president of Dubai Sports City, said at a presentation of the project.

Mr Balasubramaniam, CEO at Dubai Sports City, described the design of the silver and black towers as ‘neat and clean'. "The towers will be right at the entrance to Dubai Sports City. It is a gateway. It is iconic," he said.

A distinguishing feature of the design is that the floors widen as the towers rise, allowing for greater floor space on the top floors of the buildings.

Construction on the project is scheduled to start in a ‘couple of months' with completion estimated for within 24 months of the start of construction.

Dubai Sports City is under development as the first integrated sports city in the Emirate. The 50 million square feet development will be built around five major sports venues: 1 60,000 capacity multi-purpose outdoor stadium; a 10,000 indoor arena suitable for hard court sports; a 25,000 capacity cricket stadium; a 5,000 seat hockey stadium; and a 18-hold golf course.

Dubai Sports City is part of Dubailand, the mega entertainment complex under development in Dubai.
