Three German museums have joined forces for the first time and partnered with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA) to from a major arts hub at The Universal Museums project planned for Dubai.
The Berlin State Museums, Bavarian State Collections of Paintings in Munich and Saxonian State Museums and Art Collections in Dresden will establish a physical presence in the recently-launched Khor Dubai cultural area near Dubai Creek.
The museums will also work alongside the DCAA to implement exhibitions and conferences based on fine arts and world cultures.
His Excellency Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, managing director of the DCAA, said: "Three of the world's leading museums will establish a physical presence in Dubai; a partnership that marks the first time collaboration between these iconic institutions.
"I believe today, with such a testament, Dubai is demonstrating its status as a cross road and a meeting centre for partners from around the world as envisioned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed in his visionary Dubai Strategic Plan 2015."
The Universal Museums project was launched earlier this month by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum with the aim of bringing together leading collections by globally recognised museums.
His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed al Maktoum, chairman of the DCAA, explained: "The Universal Museums project epitomises the essence of Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Vision 2015, demonstrating Dubai's potential as a site of large-scale cultural collaborations that give rise to new and innovative cultural forms in the same way that the Emirate has spurred innovations in so many other, diverse sectors."
He continued: "The initiative will offer opportunities for education and for showcasing our own culture, leveraging our partners' stellar collections, and creating unprecedented multilateral exhibitions that span culture, geography and time to provide a window into what culture has been, is today, and will be in the future."
The DCAA is expected to announce further museum partners from prominent institutions worldwide.
