Empower has been contracted by Sama Dubai to supply the district cooling services for The Lagoons waterfront project.
The development is located near the Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary and Empower is set to deliver six district cooling stations over a 25 year period. The stations will have a total capacity of 300,000 TR.
Sama Dubai executive chairman Farhan Faraidooni said: "The agreement is an important step to ensure the efficient use of energy resources at The Lagoons."
It has been confirmed that construction work on the project is due to begin by October 2008. No MEP contractor has been appointed to date.
Construction on the first cooling plant is due to begin within Q1 of 2009 and is expected to be in operation by Q3 of 2011. Empower is planning to complete construction on the final cooling plant by 2011-12.
Each of the six plants on the development will be serving different areas, with interconnection between the plants being adopted to enable emergency and redundancy operation.
