The UAE and Russia are to work together against organised crime, creating joint taskforces to fight terrorism, money laundering, financial crimes and drug smuggling, they announced on Wednesday.

The two countries formally signed an executive plan to enforce an anti-crime cooperation agreement drawn up in September 2007, reported emirates news agency Wam.

Under the plan, Abu Dhabi and Moscow said they would co-operate in training security and law enforcement officers, and exchange information and expertise under the umbrella of Interpol.

The agreement calls for an exchange of information about terrorist organisations, their schemes and financing, illegal smuggling of firearms and ammunition, explosives and radioactive weapons, weapons of mass destruction and their manufacturing technology.

Authorities in both countries will also co-operate to detect and foil crimes including corruption, violence, human trafficking, IT related crimes, currency and document forgery and copyright infringement.
