by Rob Wagner on Saturday, 17 May 2008
A million m2 development that includes a Fifa-standard 20,000-seat football stadium will be ready for football fans by 2011 in Abu Dhabi's Bani Yas city.
A spokesperson for the company said that Target Engineering Construction Company would be awarded the contract for the project.
Northpoint, a Bryanston, South Africa-based architectural firm, will design the development.
World Planners is conducting the engineering work.
The value of the contracts has not been disclosed.
The first phase of Bawabat Al Sharq will be completed by early 2010, with the second phase to finish by the end of that year.
Phase three will be completed in 2011.
Bawabat Al Sharq will include a shopping centre spanning an area of 134,409m2 and parking for more than 2,200 vehicles.
Jawaan Al Khaili, chairman for Bani Yas Investment & Development, said the project would be a boon for tourism.
"Bawabat Al Sharq will enhance the leisure and tourism appeal of Bani Yas," said Khaili.
"Bawabat Al Sharq will extend the balance between luxurious living and an active lifestyle in an integrated community that has everything to offer."
