Brocade and Intel partner to deliver next-generation datacentres
by Sean Robson on Tuesday, 20 May 2008
Brocade and Intel will be working together as they look to deliver next-generation servers for evolving datacentre networks. The partnership will see Intel's 10 Gigabit enhanced Ethernet server adapter hardware combined with Brocade's storage networking software technology and expertise.
"Our collaboration with Intel brings together Brocade's expertise in Fibre Channel with Intel's strength in Ethernet adapters to enable the consolidation of server I/O into a unified datacentre fabric," said Madhu Matta the vice president of Brocade's server connectivity division.
"Intel believes that a unified fabric over Ethernet will further simplify the virtualised datacentre," said Tom Swinford who is general manager of Intel's LAN access division.
According to the companies the Brocade approach will provide customers with a new server connectivity option to seamlessly protect and extend their current investments in storage area networks (SANs).
Benefits of this technology will include seamless extension and protection of existing storage investments, lower long-term operating costs and a management model consistent with that used in today's SANs. The companies state that this will also ensure a unified datacentre fabric that meets the reliability, latency, and performance requirements for storage and broader connectivity.
Further benefits are said to include additional server connectivity options for more cost-effective datacentre networking as well as a reduction in multiple server I/O and parallel network infrastructure commonly used in datacentres.
"The solution will give our customers a choice to enable greater consolidation of server connectivity while preserving the benefits of their current storage networking and datacentre infrastructure." continued Matta.
The products and technology resulting from this collaboration will be available in early 2009.
