More sandstorms set to batter UAE

A sandstorm engulfed parts of Dubai on Sunday, reducing visibility to 500 metres and making driving conditions difficult for motorists.
Visibility was believed to be extremely low on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway, with one accident reported near Jebel Ali Free Zone.
The Dubai Meteorological Office warned of more bad weather on Monday, with visibility again expected to fall to below 500m from about 8:00am. Gusts could reach up to 20 knots and motorists should take care while driving, the Met office said.
Extra care should be taken in areas with a lot of sand and around construction sites, with dust and sand from the sites further reducing visibility, the office warned.
The adverse weather conditions were because to a southerly winds blowing over the UAE and Saudi Arabia this morning, and not due to a cyclone that could hit Oman later this week, the Met office said.
The forecast for the rest of the week was “hot and hazy” with temperatures averaging above 40 degrees Celsius, the Met office said.
