Cityscape Abu Dhabi smashes records
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Wednesday, 04 June 2008
Cityscape Abu Dhabi has smashed previous records with deals worth a total of US$36bn signed at the four-day event.
Attendance records were also broken, with over 50,000 participants from 105 different countries covering 30,000 sq m of exhibition space.
The event, which has held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre was scheduled to run from May 13-15, 2008 but was extended an extra day after its organiser, IIR Middle East, received a formal request from the Abu Dhabi government.
Speaking of the record-breaking event, Mark Goodchild, project manager of Cityscape Abu Dhabi said: "We forecast that the expanded 2008 event would attract around 25,000 visitors.
However, it was evident during the first day, when queues started forming around the exhibition centre, that even our most optimistic projections would be shattered."
Dates for the 2009 event are yet to be confirmed, but IIR Middle East has revealed plans to bring the showcase forward to coincide the opening of the new Abu Dhabi Marina.
