Top London eatery The Ivy to open in Dubai
by Dylan Bowman on Tuesday, 27 May 2008
Two of London's most fashionable restaurants, popular with the UK capital’s rich and famous, will open in Dubai next year, the CEO of Tatweer said in comments published on Monday.
Speaking to the UK's Financial Times (FT) newspaper, Khalid Al-Malik said the Dubailand master developer plans to establish branches of the Caprice and the Ivy in the $63 billion mega-tourism project.
The two branches could be just the first of many in the Middle East following a franchise deal the restaurants' owner Caprice Holdings signed in January with Tatweer, part of state-owned conglomerate Dubai Holding.
Other restaurants owned by Caprice Holdings include J. Sheekey, Daphnes, Bam Bou and Scott's.
Dubailand hosts 24 mega projects, including Dubai Sports City, City of Arabia and Falcon City within its three billion-square foot plot - the size of Singapore.
The project also include numerous theme parks, including Legoland, Universal Studios, DreamWorks Animation Park, Six Flags and a Marvel superhero theme park.
The park is set to open its doors in 2010.
