Batelco Internet subscribers targeted by phishing attack

Batelco is warning of a phishing attempt that is targeted at its Internet service users.
Batelco Internet subscribers have been sent an email message claiming that their ‘@batelco.com.bh' email address will be deleted unless they forward certain account details within seven days of receipt of the mail.
The Bahraini telco is stressing that the mail, which is sent under the header 'Verification Department' is bogus, and that subscribers should not respond to it at all. The company is also reminding customers that it does not ask for account information via email.
The mail asks users to reply with their email ID and password, date of birth and country of residence.
Phishing attacks attempt to lure unsuspecting users into giving away confidential information such as passwords or account numbers, by pretending to be communications from official sources. Victims are usually either asked to email details to a bogus address, or to logon to a fake website and provide information online.
Batelco is asking subscribers to contacct the Batelco Helpdesk on 17 88 11 88 if they receive any suspicious emails. Batelco has also blocked the sender's IP address, to prevent any mail to and from the phishing culprit and Batelco users.
