InterCon DFC staff don jeans for charity

by Lucy Taylor on Thursday, 29 May 2008
Staff from InterContinental Dubai Festival City all helped to raise money for victims of the recent disasters in China and Myanmar.

Following horrific natural disasters which occurred in both Myanmar and China earlier this month, staff at InterContinental Dubai Festival City wanted to do their bit, and organised a fundraising campaign to help those affected.

The property's ‘Jeans for a Cause' campaign, held on May 25-26, saw all members of staff purchase a special badge entitling them to wear their jeans to work.

Guests were also encouraged to do their part, with donation boxes located at the reception desk.

InterContinental Dubai Festival City area general manager Tom Meyer explained: "The badges were sold through HR, and colleagues were encouraged to participate and show their support for the victims in these two countries. The dress code was clearly stated - your favourite pair of jeans, with your regular uniform on top".

Meyer added that at first guests were surprised by the staff members' new look, but said they "appreciated the initiative and showed their support by donating money and also wearing the badge".

"Between the InterContinental and Crowne Plaza hotels, we raised just over AED 20,000 [US $5445]," he added.

The money raised will go directly to charities in Myanmar and China.

Meyer also revealed that there would be further charity events coming up at InterContinental Dubai Festival City, including the annual gala dinner and auction for the Children's Hope Foundation, to be held at the end of this year.
