Hotels to meet market demand in Ras Al Khaimah

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 01 June 2008
The first phase of Ras Al Khaimah’s convention and exhibition centre is slated for completion in the next three years.

The masterplan for Ras Al Khaimah's convention and exhibition centre includes hotels to meet every budget, according to developer Rakeen's chief operations officer Dr Imad Haffar.

Haffar said the project would include three hotels in the five-, four- and three-star tiers: the five-star plus Tower Hotel with more than 750 keys; the 750-key four-star Oasis Hotel and the three-star 750-key Expo Hotel.

"We are in talks with a number of international brands that have expressed their interest in this project," he said.

"We have also been in contact with a number of brands that are interested in the retail area - a number of franchises have showed an interest."

The first phase, which includes the central tower and the exhibition centre, is scheduled for completion in the next three years. The remaining hotels will be completed in four years.

Haffar said the project would feature specially-designed ceramic tiles from local manufacturers.

"We want this to become a statue - a representation of world leadership in ceramic production - so we will tile it with a very unique type of ceramics," he explained.

"The shape represents a new school of architecture and master planning. It is an organic shape that follows the undulations and the change and curvature of the desert.

We are building it to integrate with the desert - we don't want to impact the desert or change the landscape."
