This month we profile six company heads, each at the top of their game, but with very different perspectives on the business world.

Etihad CEO James Hogan has his eye firmly on the prize, with an aggressive growth strategy and the aim of creating the world's best airline.

Meanwhile Thomas Lundgren's THE One retail empire has reached a critical stage in its growth - and he in the process of re-thinking his management strategy to maintain control of an organisation that has grown beyond all expectations.

From entrepreneurs to media moguls - we meet Elie Khouri of OMG and Fred Cook of GolinHarris, two of the people responsible for ensuring that companies like Etihad and THE One stay firmly in the public eye.

And you can hear from Sir Rocco Forte and General Motors Corporation's Fred Cook for international perspectives on doing business in the region.

But while each of these businessmen has a very different story to tell - they all share the honour of being leaders in their field.

And two of them in particular share the experience of having struggled against adversity to achieve their goals.

Lundgren has spoken publicly of being dyslexic and in this issue he recalls candidly his early days in business when he struggled for his ideas to be taken seriously.

Meanwhile Sir Rocco Forte bounced back and started his own hotel chain from scratch after his family's business was bought out in a hostile takeover bid.

I was inspired by the lessons in life and business our interviewees this month have learnt and I hope that you are too.

Diana Milne is the group editor of ITP Executive.
