Timeless checks in with airport spas

Timeless Spa’s creator Albert Ng.

Timeless Spa, which originated at Emirates Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa in Dubai, is set to launch three new spas at Dubai International Airport that will all operate for 24 hours, seven days a week.

Two spas, each with nine treatment rooms, are set to open at terminal three, concourse two; one in Emirates' first class passenger lounge and one in the business class passenger lounge. Treatments will be complementary for those in first class.

Spa development manager for Timeless Spa, Albert Ng, has developed an entirely new spa treatment menu designed specifically for travelers.

"This is the first time we are offering such express services within 20-25 minutes. Treatments are focused on the back, lower back and shoulders, plus foot massage and reflexology," he said.

The spas will also offer manicure and pedicure services and there will be a hair salon too, he said.

"The peak hours in the lounges is from midnight through to 10am," said Ng.

"We would think that people who have four hours or more waiting time will look to have a treatment."

Treatments will be on a first-come, first-served basis initially, although passengers staying at Al Maha or The Harbour Hotel and Residence in Dubai will be able to book a treatment prior to check-in.

The third new Timeless Spa facility at the airport would be a fully-fledged spa offering treatments of a minimum of 60-minutes. It would be located on the Dubai International Airport hotel floor and open to all passengers using the airport, said Ng.

The three airport-based Timeless Spas were scheduled to open last month.

Ng said the project was 80% complete, with the spas due to open in the third quarter of this year.

The news follows the announcement that Virgin Airways has suspended its in-flight spa services and increased the number of treatments offered at its Heathrow Clubhouse.

Ng said he had anticipated that this would happen. "We know that having treatments in the air on a flight is not very comfortable," he explained.

"We have to ask ourselves; do you really want a treatment while traveling, or more rest and sleep? I'd rather have treatments in the lounges while I'm waiting for my next flight. This is why Emirates is focused on its lounges. I don't think at this time we are looking at offering spa treatments on board a flight," said Ng.
