Saudi Ministry awards fifth contract to Harris

Harris Corporation has been awarded a fifth contract by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Culture and Information (MOCI) to build new television facilities in the holy cities of Makkah and Medinah. The contract has been awarded to Harris in conjunction with First Gulf Company (FGC), a Riyadh-based distributor and systems integrator.
The project includes a wide range of Harris solutions that optimise the channel release, core processing, media transport, and newsroom and editing workflows for today's high-technology broadcast operations. The new facility includes two HD studio control rooms for production and daily live broadcasting of prayers from the holy cities..
"The integrated HD workflow solution from Harris will provide an excellent application for our HD facilities in the holy cities of Makkah and Medinah," commented Dr. Riyadh Najm, deputy minister of engineering, Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture and Information. "The HD broadcast products from Harris, together with the systems integration of FGC, have proven to be a winning combination for us."
At the heart of the HD control room will be a fully interoperable Harris broadcast system comprising multiple NEXIO video servers, Platinum routers and Videotek TVM-950 multiformat HD/SD-SDI signal analysers, as well as a significant number of Zandar Predator II multiviewers and NEO and 6800+ modular series frame synchronisers and converters. The sale also includes Harris Corporation's Inscriber RTX and Inscriber G3 graphics solutions.
