Digital entertainment content provider Arvato Middle East Sales FZ-LLC, (AMES) has concluded agreements with several global content majors including Sony BMG, Hungama, I-Play and EROS International Plc in preparation for the launch of its Digital Entertainment service in the Middle East.

AMES, which is owned by European media giant Bertelsmann AG, was reconstituted last year when Abu Dhabi Group acquired a significant stake in the company.

As part of the new deal with the Abu Dhabi Group, Arvato mobile will deploy a regional version of its International Digital Media Distribution Platform in the UAE, making the Arab country the nerve centre of digital media distribution for emerging markets.

Speaking about Arvato's new venture, Sean Emery, CEO of AMES, said: "AMES is committed to bringing the best of both local and international content to all consumers here in the region. The agreements we have concluded today mark the first step in our initiative to offer legal digital content services in the market with content partners. We are in discussions with several other important international and local content owners and will add them to the list of partners in the very near future."

With these new deals, Emery claimed that Arvato would be able to provide world class local and regional content for a fraction of the costs regional players were currently paying for legal international content.

"Our agreements allow us to experiment with various business models from advertising-supported free music and ring tones for consumers in the region, to sponsored all-you-can-eat music, movie and game subscriptions in addition to pay-as-you-go options," Emery stated.
