QMDI launches industry training

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Tuesday, 10 June 2008
MEREDITH: Students will be fast tracked through the industry.

The Qatar MICE Development Institute (QMDI) has teamed up with Meeting Professionals International (MPI) to launch dedicated training programmes for young Qataris who want to become involved in the meetings industry.

The courses will enable 20 Qatari students per intake to work towards the MPI global certificate in meetings operations and begin a career in the industry with QMDI.

"The new and unique opportunity aims to provide the participants with an opportunity to receive specialist training, on the job skills and to be part of an experienced QMDI events team based in Doha," said Matthew Meredith, group managing director, QMDI.

"Through this programme, these individuals will have some of the best opportunities to learn and will be fast tracked through the industry to become future industry leaders."

The course - operated by MPI - will cover every aspect of the industry, from event production to strategic planning and marketing promotions and is designed for young professionals with little or no experience in the meetings industry.

"The end result is the foundation to work towards the full CMP programme, which stands for certified meeting professional," Meredith added.

MPI's director of operations EMEA, Joyce Dogniez, CMM, said she was enthusiastic about the project: "The Middle East has tremendous opportunities ahead," she said.

"It has a perfect location connecting East and West and a rapidly developing infrastructure. It now needs to build a knowledgeable and well-trained workforce to position itself even more competitively in a global market.

"We trust that together we can raise the industry standards and provide the skills needed to provide unforgettable experiences here in Qatar."

MPI is one of only a handful of industry associations in the region that provide training for the meetings industry in the form of conferences, seminars and certification programmes.
