Habtoor JV trumps rivals for US $790 million tower

The Trump International Hotel and Tower on the Palm Jumeirah will feature 62-storey twin towers rising about the Palm monorail.

Dubai World-owned Nakheel has awarded a joint venture of Al Habtoor and Murray & Roberts a contract worth US $790 million (AED2.9 billion) for the construction of the Trump International Hotel and Tower on the Palm Jumeirah.

Construction of the project will begin next month with a completion date set for May 2011. Work involves a 62-storey structure, which is set to become a focal point of the Palm Jumeirah.

The 270m design, which has a total gross built-up area in excess of 250,000m2, will feature two towers that rise above the Palm Monorail and central park.

The development comprises a unit mix of 378 hotel rooms and suites, 385 condominiums, 12 townhouses, and 4189m2 of retail and 5574m2 of office space.

Trump International Hotel and Tower Dubai is the only planned mixed-use development in Dubai under the Trump name. The project is the first joint venture between Nakheel and The Trump Organisation.

Al Habtoor Leighton Group was established following the merger of Al Habtoor Engineering with the Arabian Gulf operations of Leighton International. The new entity immediately became the UAE's largest construction group, with revenue of over $1.6 billion in 2007.

Murray & Roberts is a South African construction and engineering group specialising in a number of regions across the world including the Middle East.

The new entity immediately became the UAE's largest construction group, with revenue of over AED 6 billion in 2007.
