Egyptian students make top ten in Oracle competition

Four teams from Egyptian schools have placed in the top ten of the Oracle Academy's annual Global Data Modeling Competition.

The competition, which is sponsored by the Oracle Academy, aims to encourage students to develop analytical and development skills to solve business problems. The competition this year tasked students to create a database to track and store meteorological data.

The Egyptian entries included the Zahran Experimental School, Elryadia School, Gamal Abdel Nasser Experimental School and Elhadissa-Elfagr Elgadid School, whose teams placed 7th-10th respectively, out of over 100 entries.

Prof. Yousry El Gamal, Egyptian Minister of Education commented: "The Ministry of Education congratulates the students and teachers at the four schools in Egypt for their excellent work and effort. These students have ranked in the top ten for the 2008 Oracle Academy Data Modeling global competition and are role models for all Egyptian students."

The Oracle Academy is an educational initiative that aims to help students to develop technology and business skills for future employment.

"I am very proud of the tremendous achievement of these students who have distinguished themselves on the international stage," said Hussein Hamza, Oracle Egypt/EMEA. "I would also like to give credit to their teachers who have been enthusiastic participants in the Oracle Academy program and who have clearly transmitted that enthusiasm and excellence to their students. This result confirms the importance of our commitment to the Oracle Academy and the Egyptian Education Initiative and demonstrates that providing students with the IT and business skills needed in the 21st century can allow them to compete successfully in a global world."
