PC Net claims revenue top spot

Saudi IT reseller PC Net has set the benchmark for Acer partners in the Kingdom by invoicing more than $350,000 of the vendor's commercial products during the first three months of the year.

Acer pays out rebates of 1.5% to dealers that do business in excess of $350,000 a quarter based on sell-out data from its authorised distribution partners in Saudi Arabia. Eleven resellers qualified for that rebate during the first quarter, with Acer confirming that PC Net topped the list in terms of volume. It is understood the company, which is part of Al-Jassim Electronics, purchased around SAR1.5m ($400,000) of the vendor's laptops, monitors, projectors and desktops.

Yasser Hosny, sales manager for the western region at PC Net, attributes the firm's performance to a combination of its own sales strategies and the strength Acer's portfolio. "The customer often looks at price and Acer has put a lot of laptops, like its Celeron machines, into the entry-level market as well as sectors such as education. This really helps us to move the product," he said. "On top of that, the awareness of other items like Acer LCDs and projectors is also high in Saudi Arabia now."

PC Net is confident that it will have at least matched its Q1 haul by the time the second quarter closes this month, but predicts a challenge once the July quarter kicks off. "The third quarter is a problem - not only for us but the whole IT market - because it is the summer time and then we have Ramadan so business will slow down," said Hosny.

While PC Net netted an award for the highest transactional value with Acer during Q1, Jeddah-based ICC Group has also been celebrating after walking away with the keys to a brand new Mercedes C200. The company's name was pulled out of a draw containing all members of Acer's Active Channel Partner Programme that bought more than $100,000 worth of kit during the first quarter.
