One great story

by Anil Bhoyrul on Saturday, 14 June 2008

His story is a classic tale of rags to riches. Despite many huge disappointments along the road to riches, The One founder Thomas Lundgren kept on going - and kept on going.

The banks didn't want to know him. The venture capitalists laughed at his ideas. The private investors wouldn't return his calls.

Today, he runs a retail empire easily worth US$200m.

His story is a lesson to all budding small businesses: keep on going. Just because one bank - or for that matter 10 banks - say no to you, it doesn't mean they all will. Just because your idea doesn't make sense to some people doesn't mean it won't work.

What it takes to succeed is an incredible amount of both hard work and sheer belief in what you are doing. Lundgren has never lacked either. Which is why he deserves his success so much.

Anil Bhoyrul is the editorial director of ITP Executive.
