Dozens of teachers in the UAE staged a sit-in on Sunday to protest against their transfer from teaching posts because of what they said were their Islamist views.

The sit-in outside the Education Ministry in Dubai was the second since the 83 teachers were told in August not to report to work in the following academic year.

They were transferred to other ministries, such as health and labour.

“Nobody has explained to us the reason behind our removal from our jobs, but it is known that... our embracing of some of the principles of the Muslim Brotherhood is held against us,” Salem Al-Teneiji told newswire AFP.

However, Mohammed bin Hendi, executive director for institutional services and support at the Ministry of Education, denied the ministry had terminated the services of the protesting teachers.

In a a statement carried by state news agency WAM, bin Hendi said the teachers were transferred in accordance with the requirements of the ministry's strategic plan.

The ministry was prepared to look into any grievances put up in acceptable ways, he added.
