The British University in Dubai (BUiD) has partnered with the Emirates Green Building Council to offer the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional Examination Courses in the region.
The course is intended to give students a clearer understanding of the LEED Green Building rating system, which is a US-developed benchmark for evaluating the sustainability of building projects. The system deals with elements such as energy usage and water recycling within a project. Buildings are then provided with a rating dependent on the extent of its sustainable capabilities, raging from Certified, the most basic level, to Platinum, the highest possible rating.
"A sustainable approach to design and development forms the blueprint for the future of the UAE, as laid out in the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad, UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President, and Ruler of Dubai," said Dr. Abdullah Abdulla Alshamsi, vice-chancellor, British University in Dubai.
The summer course will prepare students for the LEED Professional Accreditation examination, which will allow them to operate as LEED accredited architects.
