IHG will debut in Morocco when the InterContinental Marrakech Resort and Spa opens in 2011.
Slated to open in the first quarter, the 180-room property will include a 2000 sq m spa, 118 hotel apartment units and a mixture of upscale InterContinental branded residential units, including riads, villas and apartments.
The announcement comes after IHG reached terms with Moroccan developer Groupe Cadex.
IHG chief operating officer Europe and North Africa Jennifer Fox said the signing was :a major coup".
"We are absolutely delighted that we have managed to secure such a great location and partnership for our first project in Morocco," she said.
"The country is an increasingly important and high-profile destination for international travellers and we are confident this development will cement our position in the region and in a market to which we are committed. We look forward to opening the InterContinental Marrakech Resort and Spa and to working on other projects with Groupe Cadex in the future."
