Six UAE medical clinics have been closed by the Ministry of Health after inspectors discovered they were using untrained staff as doctors and nurses, and carrying out unregulated treatments.

The ministry’s Medical Practice and Licensing Department is also prosecuting five medical staff, UAE daily The National reported on Thursday.

A ministry spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday several clinics which had been operating with unlicensed nurses and doctors have been closed, the newspaper said.

In one clinic, a secretary with no medical training had taken part in medical procedures while another centre was closed for “infringement to the ethics of the profession and immoral practices".

A spokesperson for the Medical Practice and Licensing Department told the newspaper the uneducated medical practices used by the centres "could kill people".
