Dubai to develop region's first incinerator by 2012
by Sean Cronin on Sunday, 22 June 2008
Dubai is set to convert waste to energy with plans to develop the region’s first large-scale incinerator by 2012.
Different financial options to run and operate the incinerator project are under consideration, Hassan Makki, director of waste management at Dubai Municipality said on Sunday.
Record oil revenues and burgeoning population has driven the production of domestic and construction waste in Dubai.
“Dubai produces around 10,000 tonnes of general waste per day and more than 30,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste per day,” said Abdulla Rafea, assistant general director of health and environmental services at the municipality.
