VTR Beirut upgrades systems

Beirut-based post production house, VTR Beirut recently undertook a massive upgrade of all its Autodesk systems. It upgraded its Autodesk visual effects, editing and finishing systems to the latest versions running on Linux-based workstations.

The facility has the Autodesk Inferno and Autodesk Flame visual effects systems, two Autodesk Smoke editing and finishing systems, and the Autodesk Backdraft Conform media management solution.

As VTR Beirut also invested in Autodesk's subscription programme, it will automatically receive the 2009 software versions announced at NAB. The systems and software were sold and installed by Autodesk's reseller Firmware.

"Part of our mission statement is to maintain the most professional up-to-date equipment in the industry and this latest investment reflects our ongoing commitment to this," commented George E. Bitar, managing director, VTR Beirut. "We'll benefit from the many advantages that these upgrades bring: the speed and operational efficiency of Linux workstations, extra storage, standard file systems and tighter integration, to name just a few.

VTR Beirut has lined up two feature films and several documentary projects - which it will start working on in the middle of this year - as well as several major TV commercials and music promos for renowned artists.

"VTR Beirut is technically equipped to handle any job be it films, commercials, long-form episodic, bumpers and promos," continued Bitar. "We've empowered our artists with a creative toolset to produce greater results. The new versions of Inferno, Flame, Smoke and Backdraft Conform include many features that our resident and freelance artists have long had on their wish lists, such as the tighter integration between the effects and editing systems, the "marriage" of DVE and Action, and Batch Paint."

VTR Beirut plans to upgrade other areas of the facility in the near feature and is also mulling the possibility of expanding its services to other parts of the region.
