Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) will build an AED 387 million ($105 million) convention centre in Al Ain in a bid to drive the overall growth of business tourism across the emirate.
The Al Ain Convention Centre will boast 5000m2 of conference space as well as a 225-key four-star hotel, and will be part of the AED 3.5 billion (US $1billion) business and residential micro-city Al Ain Convention Centre and District.
"Abu Dhabi is positioning the whole emirate as a world-renowned destination and ADNEC and Al Ain are very much a part of that strategy," according to sales and marketing director Paul Vincent.
"A conference brings thousands of people from all over the world to this destination - high-quality visitors who then go back to their home countries as ambassadors. We are not just marketing and promoting ADNEC, we are part of that ‘team Abu Dhabi' that is marketing the emirate to the rest of the world," he explained.
The new development will form part of ADNEC's efforts to promote the emirate as a destination of choice, alongside the Abu Dhabi government's aim to see Al Ain Convention Centre and District become a leading cultural and commercial destination in the UAE.
Al Ain Convention Centre will become part of ADNEC's plans to create a ‘family' of venues that it hopes will allow exhibition organisers to place their business with confidence, whether they are in the Middle East or in the UK.
"Think of it as the hardware and the reason for this is the fact that there is that there is significant globalisation taking place in the exhibitions industry," Vincent explained.
"Leading international exhibition organisers can bring their software and know that, while each of the venues will retain its individuality and uniqueness, it will also conform to a set of common standards and a set of performance related support so they can place their business with confidence," he added.
Work is scheduled to begin on the Al Ain Convention Centre later this year.
