EMC talks up prospect of Jordanian office

Storage vendor EMC has revealed that the expansion of its business in the Gulf and Levant could include the launch of a local operation in Jordan before the end of next year.

The level of business EMC conducts in the Jordanian market has not necessitated the need for an in-country presence up to now, but the ongoing development of the enterprise sector - led by investment from government, telco and finance organisations - looks poised to change that in the not too distant future.

"It is important to point out that when EMC establishes a local operation it is to reinforce our presence and support our partners as well as customers in that particular country," explained Qais Gharaibeh, general manager for the Gulf and Levant at EMC. "It is difficult to predict the exact time when we would open an office in Jordan, however we are hoping that we will be able to address this within the next 18 months."

EMC currently has a Dubai-based sales and pre-sales team addressing the Jordanian market, which it serves through systems integration partners Intracom and ITS - the latter of which is understood to have recently opened an office in Jordan itself.

Although the volume of IT projects in Jordan isn't on a par with those in the larger Gulf territories, Gharaibeh insists the market harbours enough potential to warrant a stronger presence. "I personally have started to see certain consistent trends in the market that give me some sort of confidence that an investment from EMC in establishing a local operation in the near future would be of good return."
