Abu Dhabi-based Maximus Air Cargo has released its results, which show that the airfreight operator more than tripled its turnover during the first four months of this year compared to the same period in 2007.

Revenue for the period amounted to AED122.77 million, compared to AED37.80 million last year. Aircraft hours sold also increased from 471 to 3062.

Maximus, which now has a total of eight all-cargo Antonov AN-124, Airbus A300-600RF, Ilyushin IL-76 and Hercules L382G aircraft, specialises in moving outsize cargo and carries out operations across the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia. In addition, the company also carries out regular scheduled cargo services in conjunction with airlines such as Etihad and Air France.

"We now have a bigger fleet, but growth is also due to securing a much larger share of the market," announced Fathi Hillal Buhazza, Maximus' president and CEO.

In recent months, Maximus has been appointed as the exclusive air relief support partner for the Red Crescent charity, and has been able to provide much-needed humanitarian supplies to cyclone-hit Burma. It has also been responsible for freighting 800 tonnes of supplies for a European defence force creating a new base in the African state of Chad.
