Emirates has extended its operations in India to 132 flights per week, the highest frequency for an international carrier in the subcontinent. The 18 extra flights a week to New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore start on 1 July.

The Dubai-based airline is adding four additional services to the Indian capital, New Delhi, and forecasts that cargo movement will increase as a result of the added capability.

In particular, Emirates is looking to tap into the higher volumes of garments, meat products, fruit and vegetables, machinery and spares that are currently being transshipped between the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

The airline is also predicting that cargo tonnage to Hyderabad will rise by over 70% to 246 tonnes per week, allowing exporters in that city to transport pharmaceuticals, engineering spares, chemicals and poultry products to the Gulf, Africa, America and Europe. India is currently the largest export and re-export destination for Dubai and is its the second-largest import source.

"Having fuelled strong economic and trade ties between the Middle East and India since the start of its services in 1985, Emirates is well-poised to support India's blistering growth in the 21st century with its efficient, reliable and increased air links," noted Salem Obaidalla, Emirates' senior vice president for commercial operations, West Asia and Indian Ocean.
