KW Kim, CEO at LG Electronics Middle East and Africa

LG Electronics has revealed the sales figures of its LG60 TV range since the products hit shelves in the Middle East consumer electronics market last month.

The South Korean electronics manufacturer claims to be impressed with its performance after recording initial sales of 2,730 units across the region. In the UAE alone the company says it has sold 1,638 pieces of its Scarlet flat panel model.

KW Kim, CEO at LG Electronics Middle East and Africa, claims that the Scarlet - the company's flagship product and supposedly the world's slimmest LCD-TV - has earned the respect of the region's consumers. He also revealed the company plans to "strengthen" the range within the next few months.

According to the company's recent first quarter results, LG's Digital Display Company - which is responsible for the LG60 range and the Scarlet - saw sales jump 32% to $3.8billion powered by a rise in sales of flat panel TVs and monitors.

The vendor says that sales of LCD TVs were up 82% on last year, while plasma TV sales 18% and monitors 30%. For the same period the company also claims to have established an operating profit of $1m.
