Abu Dhabi's first Formula One grand prix could take place in November next year, the sport's governing body announced on Wednesday, ending months of speculation over when the race would be held.
The Federation International de l’Automobile (FIA) has set a provisional date of Nov. 15 for the UAE capital's inaugural F1 grand prix.
The grand prix is pencilled in as the final race of the season, and if the order remains unchanged UAE motorsports fans could have the chance of seeing the F1 title decided in Abu Dhabi.
The race will take place on a purpose-built track being constructed on Yas Island. The track is set for completion in June next year, Malaysia's WCT Engineering, the firm heading up the project, said in March.
The project is part of the $40 billion Yas Island development, which will convert 2,500 hectares of the island into a leisure and entertainment tourism destination.
The emirate hopes that the annual race will attract around three million people by 2015.
