FM awards was judged fair and square

The majority of the facilities management industry was still on a high, the morning after the first facilities management Middle East Awards.

But what was brought to my attention immediately after the last award was presented, was a backhanded text message from an FM professional stating his/her company, quote, "won't ever be entering a fixed award scheme again".

While accusations like these are quite common after companies, big or small, who expect to win, don't, I have to admit that I expected better.

The suggestion that the awards were fixed and not independant, is simply not the case.

The high profile and experienced judging panel judged on merit. They chose not to bow down to company politics and keep certain firms happy by giving them an award, just because of their status within the region.

Yes, it is true that some sponsors won awards, but it is also true that some didn't. And for those that did, it is purely because they embraced the nomination process just as much as they embraced the opportunity to support such an event.

So to celebrate this and congratulate all the winners and those short listed, we have put together a "facilities management Middle East Awards special" which can be pulled out for you to keep as a inspiration for next year's awards.

Unfortunatly, I won't be seeing next year's awards through as editor of facilities management Middle East, as I am moving on to pastures new.

While I could bore you all with endless highlights, I feel that a simple and heartfelt "thank you" to all those who have made my time on the magazine so enjoyable, goes a lot further.

Since the launch of the magazine back in October 2006, we have seen the industry grow, progress and evolve into a more recognised and respected sector. But there is still some way to go in many areas of the Middle East and I have no doubt that your commitment to move the industry forward will be the driving force behind its future progression.
