A government probe has been launched after 3000 work permits were issued by the UAE Ministry of Labour without essential documents.

The department is now threatening to bring legal action against staff found to be responsible for issuing the illegal documents, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Thursday.

The irregularities were discovered at the ministry’s Al Ain office, the newspaper said, citing Humaid Bin Deemas. the ministry’s acting undersecretary.

Work permits had been issued depite a lack of essential documents, the newspaper said.

The investigation could see charges brought against ministry employees.
