Study launched to plug skills gap

by Amy Glass on Monday, 30 June 2008

Bahrain's Labour Fund has launched a study with Australia’s Allen Consulting Group (ACG) to analyse the state of the Gulf state's labour market, it said on Monday.

The Skills Gaps Study will examine existing and emerging skills gaps, shortages, requirements and trends across 11 economic sectors, and identify skills gaps and requirements.

Abdulellah Al Qassimi, acting chief executive of the Bahrain Labour Fund, said the study’s findings would enable the fund to base investment decisions and actions on reliable data.

“It will also assist the Labour Fund to achieve its strategy of capitalising and developing value-added Bahraini talent and skills in rewarding careers and to enable the private sector to identify the skills it requires,” he said in a statement.

The consulting team lead by the Allen Consulting Group will be conducting a series of interviews to gather data.

The interviews will be followed by surveys with employers, employees and graduates.

The study is expected to take 10 months, with a report delivered in February 2009.
