UAE-based Landmark Hotel Management Co said on Tuesday it plans to launch 10 sharia compliant hotels and serviced apartments in the UAE and Saudi Arabia by the end of 2010.
Six of the 10 projects will be launched in Dubai, two in Abu Dhabi, one in Fujairah and one in Jeddah, the company said in a statement.
All the projects will be alcohol-free, serve halal food and give a percentage of their profit to charity, it said.
Landmark Managing Director S.M. Sadique said the company would be targeting both Muslim and non-Muslims.
"Presently, the general perception is that sharia compliant hotels are only meant for Muslims; which is certainly not the case," Sadique said.
"There are several non-Muslims, especially with families, who thoroughly enjoy the quieter and cleaner ambience offered in sharia compliant hotels."
Landmark Hotel Management is part of the Landmark Group of Hotels.
