Alam Steel and Macsteel SA have announced a 50-50 joint venture to set up the Middle-East's first service centre for processing high grade steel.
The factory will be the country's first to offer value-added and technical products for the petrochemical, mining, earthmoving, shipbuilding, construction, manufacturing and fabrication industries.
The state-of-the-art facility will be based in a 27,870 m2 factory in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ).
The factory will cost US $27 million (AED100 million) and will operate within a year.
A range of flat steels will be processed including commercial, structural, pressure vessel, stainless, wear resistant (Q&T) and many other grades using modern machinery. Cut-to-length, saw and drilling services will also be available.
JAFZ's senior vice president of commercial sales Ibrahim Al Janahi said the company's decision to build at Jafz would help it consolidate its presence in the UAE and the region.
"The opening of this facility shows the magnitude of the company's expansion plans and also the confidence it has in JAFZ as the base for new operations," said Al Janahi.
Alam Steel director and Macsteel Gulf FZCO board member Vikram Bhatia said the service centre would complement the companies' existing businesses, and enable them to supply a more comprehensive product range.
