Tiger Woods Dubai to build mega-nursery to support development

Tiger Woods Dubai, a member of Tatweer, has revealed it is in the process of establishing a huge nursery to meet planting requirements for the golf course development and its surrounding area.

The 80-hectare nursery, which is being developed at cost of US$21 million, will be used to supply trees and shrubs to the Tiger Woods development, the firm said.

Part of Dubailand, Tiger Woods Dubai includes the Al Ruwaya golf course - the first to be designed by US star golfer Tiger Woods  - and community resort.

The nursery will contain more than 1,000 trees and shrubs that will be transferred to the Tiger Woods Dubai community in phases, the firm said.

"The Tiger Woods Dubai will have 30,000 fully developed trees. The trees are being shipped in from Thailand, Australia, South Africa, the US, India and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The 12-13 metre trees are some of the tallest ever imported into the UAE," Abdulla Al Gurg, project director Tiger Woods Dubai said in a statement to Commercial Outdoor Design.

"About 11,000 of the 30,000 mature trees will be used in Al Ruwaya itself, while the remainder will be replanted all across the development," he added.

Following completion of the project, estimated for the end of 2009, plans exist for the nursery to possibly be expanded by a further 20 hectares in order to supply plants to the rest of the Dubailand development, Al Gurg said.

Approximately 10 containers have already been shipped to the location, with additional shipments of around 25 containers per week to be made in the coming three to four months the company said.

The Tiger Woods site, which was masterplanned by US landscape architecture and urban design firm EDSA, is part of Dubailand, the mega leisure and entertainment complex under development in Dubai.
