Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) has ordered a new high-voltage gas-insulated substation from AREVA T&D. The total value of the contract is €36million (US $56million).
The unit will be installed in the Saad Al Abdallah region in the north of the country and will serve a new residential area being developed close to the Iraqi border. Startup is set for April 2010.
"We have been present in Kuwait for more than 35 years and thanks to our robust local setup in partnership with Al-Rashed, we can provide MEW with solutions that match their expectations," said Alhan Fares, AREVA T&D regional vice president for the Near and Middle-East.

I am interested to know more about this new sub-station, particularly with regards to 'gas-insulated'.
What exactly do you mean by ‘gas-insulated’, is the transformer ‘gas-insulated’ or the other equipments within the sub-station?
Please clarify. Thanks.
