More than 20 companies in the UAE emirate of Al Ain are facing legal action after they were found flouting the midday break rule for outdoor workers during the first week of inspection.
The majority of those found breaking the rule were in the construction industry, Yosuf Obeid Al Za’aby, acting head of the inspection department of the Al Ain Labour Office (AALO) told UAE daily Khaleej Times.
“The majority of the firms caught flouting the rule are contracting and construction companies. Carpentry shops come next,” he said.
The Ministry of Labour has instructed companies to give labourers working directly under the sun a break between 12:30pm and 3:00pm during the peak summer months of July and August.

Bravo to the concerned authorities for taking this step that prevents abuse by construction companies.
